Three in Double Figures as Women's Basketball Drops Caldwell, 82-64, Remains Unbeaten at Home


RINDGE, NH (November 29, 2014)
- Freshman Jemma Thacker (Aldgate, Australia) netted her career- high of 17 points to lead the Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team to  82-64 win over Caldwell University at the Field house in non-conference play.

The Ravens advance to an overall record of 4-2, and remain 2-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play, while the Cougars fall 3-3, and remain 1-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Thacker was 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, 7-for-11 from the field, with 12 of her 17 points coming from the first half alone. Thacker and junior Kara Charette (Fairhaven, Mass.) posted back- to- back three's within the first four minutes to give the Ravens a 10-6 lead over the Cougars.

With 9:40 on the clock in the first half, Charette's layup started the pull away for the Ravens, 22-17. The Cougars were denied points until freshman Maura Kelty's jumpshot at 5:40 bringing the game 33-19. A three-pointer by junior Nicole Angelo a minute later would bring the game within 11 points- the smallest deficit the remainder of the game, 33-22.

The first half would end with 43-26 on the scoreboard. The Cougars were 100% from the free throw line and the Ravens shot 55.9% overall. Thacker was the high scorer for the half with 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Senior Jessica Hurd (Kegworth, England) had 10 points and six rebounds, with Charette also having 10 points and posting three rebounds.

Thacker's three-pointer off a steal would give the Ravens a 24 point lead by 18:25 in the second half.  The Cougars would fight back bringing the game within 19 points four times within the next few minutes.

With just over four minutes to play, a three-pointer by junior Ashley Forand (Storrs, Conn.) would give the Ravens their highest lead of the game, 82-51. The Cougars began to chip away at the 31 point lead for the remainder of the game. Kelty's layup with just under a minute to play would round the score out to 82-64 for the Ravens to post another victory on their home court.

Sharell Sanders had 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists for the Cougars. Emily Caswell also added 9 points and 6 rebounds with Karlie O'Driscoll matching the 9 points and 6 rebounds, but adding 3 assists.

Jemma Thacker posted 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists to be game high scorer. Jessica Hurd had 16 points , 8 rebounds, and 2 assists, and Kara Charette with 14 points and 5 rebounds.

The Ravens return to their home court for their next game on Wednesday, December 3rd to face Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference play.
