CSFL Week 1 Review

RINDGE, N.H. (September 19, 2017) – Senior linebacker Demitri Moreno (Alhambra, Calif.) of the Franklin Pierce University sprint football team has been named Collegiate Sprint Football League Defensive Player of the Week, for the week ending on Sept. 17, as announced on Tuesday afternoon by the League office. In addition, sophomore kicker Owen King (Athol, Mass.) has been named CSFL Special Teams Player of the Week.

Moreno led the team’s defensive effort in Saturday’s season-opening, 24-21 win over Mansfield at home at Sodexo Field. Moreno finished the afternoon with a game-best 14 tackles, including a game-high nine solo tackles and one tackle for loss. Along the way, he also forced one fumble, which he recovered. Moreno led the entire CSFL in tackles in the opening week.

For his part, King was perfect in the season’s first week. He opened the scoring early in the second quarter by connecting on a 30-yard field goal, providing three points which would ultimately serve as the margin of victory. Later in the afternoon, King converted on all three of his point-after attempts.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 23, when they remain home to host Army West Point. Opening kickoff is set for noon at Sodexo Field.
