Rashad Watson Named Interim Head Coach of Franklin Pierce Sprint Football Program

RINDGE, N.H. (June 27, 2017) – Franklin Pierce University Director of Athletics Rachel Burleson has announced Rashad Watson has been named the second head coach of the University’s sprint football program. Watson, who takes over the head coaching position on an interim basis for the 2017 season, fills the position vacated by Pete Ewald, who resigned earlier in June.

Sprint Football Puts Five on All-CSFL Teams, Has 14 Total Honored by League

RINDGE, N.H. (November 21, 2016) – Four First-Team selections led five All-Collegiate Sprint Football League selections for the Franklin Pierce University sprint football team, as announced Monday by the League office. In all, the Ravens had 14 players honored in the League’s year-end awards.

Balanced Attack, Six Forced Turnovers Help Sprint Football Cap Season with 24-17 Win at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. (November 4, 2016) – The defense forced six turnovers, freshman running back Kobie Smith (Leominster, Mass.) rushed for two touchdowns, and junior quarterback Jose Melo (Greenwich, Conn.) threw for two more on Friday night, as the Franklin Pierce University sprint football team closed out its season with a 24-17 win over Cornell at Schoellkopf Field. Senior linebacker Josh Castro (Nashua, N.H.) had nine tackles (eight solo), intercepted one pass, broke up two others, and recovered a fumble to lead the defense in the Collegiate Sprint Football League contest. Sophomore quarterback Connor Ostrander threw for 160 yards and a score in defeat for Cornell.

Turner Snags Hail Mary as Sprint Football Stuns Chestnut Hill on Final Play, 14-8

RINDGE, N.H. (October 29, 2016) – For much of the afternoon on Saturday, the Collegiate Sprint Football League contest at Sodexo Field could be labeled as sloppy, with weather to match enveloping the Granite State. Tied at 8-8, the Franklin Pierce University sprint football team took a timeout with six seconds to play in regulation and took one more shot at the end zone. The 39-yard pass by junior quarterback Jose Melo (Greenwich, Conn.) was deflected at the goal line and ricocheted to the waiting arms of freshman running back Ahzir Turner (Schenectady, N.Y.) three yards into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown as time expired, with Franklin Pierce pulling out a 14-8 win over visiting Chestnut Hill.

Sprint Football Dropped at Army, 39-8

WEST POINT, N.Y. (October 21, 2016) – The Franklin Pierce University sprint football team hit the road on Friday night and suffered a 39-8 loss at Army West Point in Collegiate Sprint Football League play at Shea Stadium. Sophomore quarterback Keegan West threw for 288 yards and four touchdowns to lead the way for the Black Knights.

Zech Runs Sprint Football Past Mansfield, 19-13

MANSFIELD, Pa. (October 15, 2016) – Sophomore running back Tyler Zech (Pepperell, Mass.) finished with 96 yards on 19 carries to lead a 232-yard rushing attack on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University sprint football team picked up a 19-13 win on the road at Mansfield in Collegiate Sprint Football League action at Van Norman Field. Freshman linebacker Bailee Johns (Fitzwilliam, N.H.) had a 22-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter to help the Ravens build an early lead.

Senior defensive end Ed Cai recorded eight total tackles and a team high two sacks as the University of Pennsylvania sprint football team defeated Collegiate Sprint Football League opponent Franklin Pierce 33-12 during a cool, gloomy homecoming contest Saturday afternoon on Sodexo Field. The loss drops the host Ravens to 1-2, 1-2 CSFL and the win keeps the Quakers unblemished at 3-0, 3-0 CSFL.

Navy Sinks Sprint Football, 54-13

RINDGE, N.H. (September 24, 2016) – Senior running back Brendon Clements rushed for 139 yards and three scores, while freshman quarterback Jon Saadey threw for 186 yards and three more touchdowns on Saturday afternoon, as Navy picked apart the Franklin Pierce University sprint football team at Sodexo Field, 54-13. Junior quarterback Jose Melo (Greenwich, Mass.) threw for 174 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw three interceptions, in defeat for the Ravens in the Collegiate Sprint Football League contest.

(September 17, 2016) – Capitalizing on short fields throughout the night thanks to the defense, the Franklin Pierce University sprint football team used three touchdowns from sophomore tailback Tyler Zech (Pepperell, Mass.) to put together a 24-6 win over Post in Collegiate Sprint Football League play at Sodexo Field on Saturday night. The game was the season opener for both teams, as well as the annual Talon Cup matchup between the two schools.
