RINDGE, N.H. (April 14, 2018) – Franklin Pierce University softball freshman Cyrena Zemaitis (Goshen, Conn.) pitched a complete game shutout during game one of a doubleheader with Northeast-10 Conference opponent Stonehill College Saturday afternoon at the Bisaccia Softball Complex. The split gives the Ravens their seventh win overall and fourth in league play while the Skyhawks drop to 7-20, 6-11 NE10.

Game One: Ravens 1, Skyhawks 0 (Final)

Zemaitis and her counterpart Jennifer Mayette were engaged in a pitcher's duel during game one. Zemaitis captured her fourth win of the year as she tossed seven innings scattering six hits and one walk while fanning 10. Mayette allowed only four hits and two free passes but was saddled with the setback.

Raven first basemen Aubrey Bianco (Marlboro, N.Y.) drove in the lone run by bashing an opposite-field RBI single. She also added a stolen base.

During the top of the second, Skyhawks second basemen Sophie Perez led off the frame roping a single up the middle. Zemaitis answered sending the next three batters back to the dugout down swinging to end the inning. Stonehill had an opportunity to take the first lead in the showdown during their next trip to the plate. Centerfielder Hannah Ricker dropped down a bunt single with one down and stole second base. She advanced to third base via a passed ball, but could not cross the plate.

Franklin Pierce finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Senior centerfielder Cassidy Sorenson (Billerica, Mass.) worked a walk and promptly took two bases on a wild pitch. Following a line out, Bianco slapped an RBI single through the right side to break the deadlock. Bianco's theft of third base put runners at the corners until Mayette got a strikeout to end the inning.

The Skyhawks advanced only two runners to second base the rest of the contest as Zemaitis continued to dominate the guest's lineup. In the top of the seventh with two down, a Ricker bunt single just in front of home plate. She stole second base with left fielder Caroline Casey batting, but Casey was punched out by Zemaitis to end the ballgame.

Game Two: Skyhawks 6, Ravens 4 (Final)

Amelia Mamone (Wynantskill, N.Y.) started game two for the Crimson and Grey and punched out eight batters. Kazi Walker came on in relief and earned her first win of the campaign. Sorenson posted a 2-for-4 (.500) effort with an RBI. Leftfielder Allison Shaw (Bakersfield, Calif.) and teammate Ashley Rosario (Queensbury, N.Y.) tallied RBIs. Ashley Conway (Salem, N.H.) smoked a double and Jess Rego (Richmond, R.I.) scored two runs.

The Ravens scored the first run in the bottom of the third when Rego reached after a fielding miscue through the legs of the Skyhawks third basemen. A Gina Hinckley (Lancaster, Mass.) sacrifice bunt and a Shaw groundout moved Rego to third. The next batter Rosario flared an RBI single to left to break the tie.

In the top half of the fifth, Stonehill struck for three runs to take a 3-1 lead. Casey singled to left which plated Ricker and shortstop Mallie Bennett. Backstop Michelle Theilgard stepped into the box and smoked a two-bagger to left center over the heads of the Raven fielders and all the way to the fence. Casey came around and touched home to build the margin to 3-1.

Franklin Pierce gained those three runs back in the bottom of the frame. Jaclyn Cortese (Upton, Mass.) who singled earlier in the inning, came around to score on Shaw's RBI single. Rego ran all the way around the bases for the second run of the frame and then Sorenson regained the lead to the home side by roping a liner to second base which brought home Shaw.

Stonehill captured the contest in the top of the seventh with one down as they pushed three runs across off a Perez bases-clearing double to left center.

The Ravens conclude their season series with Stonehill on Tuesday in Rindge with first pitch slated for 4:00 p.m.
