Bentley Takes Season Series With Single Game 7-4 Win Versus Franklin Pierce

WALTHAM, Mass. (April 3, 2018) – Franklin Pierce University softball freshman shortstop Ashley Rosario (Queensbury, N.Y.) plated three runs as the Crimson and Grey fell 7-4 to Northeast-10 Conference foe Bentley University Tuesday afternoon. The victory improves the Falcons record to 8-15, 5-5 NE10 while the Ravens suffered 13th setback overall and remain winless in league play.

Rosario's no-out bases-clearing double in the top of the seventh erased a six-run deficit as FPU trailed by three with a runner in scoring position. Her hit was one of only two Pierce base knocks of the game as they capitalized on the wild pitching of starter Lauren Calabrese who issued seven free passes over six innings in the circle. Kayleigh Fitzpatrick came on in relief for the hosts and induced the final three outs including a strikeout for her second save of the season.

Sophomore lefthander Amelia Mamone (Wynantskill, N.Y.) started for the Ravens and made it through two innings allowing four runs – three earned on four hits and two walks. Cyrena Zemaitis (Goshen, Conn.) relieved Mamone and hurled four innings while punching out a game-high five batters.

Three players for Bentley chipped in multi-hit performances as they were led by third basemen Noa Rivera's two-for-three (.667) two-triple and two RBI effort.

Bentley scored the first run of the game in the top of the first frame as Julie Slavin came around to score from second after a mental miscue from the Ravens. In the next half inning, Franklin Pierce tied the contest at 1-1 when Aubrey Bianco (Marlboro, N.Y.) crossed the plate via a passed ball after working a walk, advancing to second on a failed pickoff and moving to third on a groundout.

The Falcons recaptured momentum in the bottom of the second as two straight hits, a Jordan Ballantyne single and Rivera's first three-bagger gave Bentley a 2-1 edge. They tacked on two more runs off two RBI groundouts to lead 4-1.

A Slavin single, Rivera's second triple and a Catie Noons rip to center all brought home important insurance runs to boost the game to 7-1. Rosario's double cut into the lead, but Bentley hung on for the three-run win.
