Softball Downed by No. 20 Southern New Hampshire, 7-0

Ravens to host Penmen again Thursday

Ravens Softball RINDGE, N.H. (April 7, 2015) – Graduate student left fielder Jamie Wiley (Cape Vincent, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 on Tuesday afternoon, but her two hits accounted for half of her team's offense, as the Franklin Pierce University softball team suffered a 7-0 defeat at the hands of No. 20 nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference, Northeast Division play at the Bisaccia Softball Complex. Junior second baseman Lindsey Bolduc went 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs, scored three times and drove in four runs in the win for SNHU.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-4 (1-3 Northeast-10, 1-3 Northeast Division), while SNHU improves to 14-3 (3-0 Northeast-10, 3-0 Northeast Division). The two teams are scheduled to meet in Rindge again on Thursday, in a 4 p.m. doubleheader, to wrap up the three-game season series.

SNHU -- which played as the home team, as it was originally scheduled to host the Ravens on Tuesday -- plated the only run it would need in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman shortstop Brittany Perdigao worked a one-out walk, moved to third on a double to left by junior third baseman Katie Caruso and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Bolduc.

The Penmen doubled the lead to 2-0 with a run in the bottom of the second. Sophomore catcher Jessica Torsiello led off with a single back through the middle, went first-to-third as freshman designated player Sarah Lavallee reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by senior left fielder Holly Eicher.

Two more runs in the bottom of the third made it a 4-0 SNHU lead. Caruso opened the frame with a double to left, moved to third on a single up the middle by Bolduc and scored on an RBI single to center by sophomore first baseman Erin Morrissey. Bolduc went first-to-third on the Morrissey single and scored on a would-be sacrifice fly to center by Lavallee, though the latter reached as well, as the fly ball was dropped.

SNHU tacked on a solo run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to create the 7-0 final. In the fourth, Bolduc cracked a solo home run to left field, her second of the season. In the sixth, Perdigao singled and later scored on Bolduc's second home run of the day, this one a two-run shot to center.

Junior Mandi Adee (Kinderhook, N.Y.) started in the circle and threw the first 3.2 innings for Franklin Pierce. She was charged with five runs (four earned) on nine hits, walked two, struck out two and suffered the loss (1-1).

Sophomore Nicole Gubellini went the distance for the fourth time on the season and fired her second shutout of the year for SNHU. She allowed four hits, walked three, hit two batters and struck out seven while picking up the win (5-1).
