Eight Softball Standouts Named NFCA Division II Scholar-Athletes

Ravens earn GPAs of 3.5 or higher in 2013-14

RINDGE, N.H. (June 18, 2014) – Eight Franklin Pierce University softball standouts on Wednesday were named 2013-14 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Scholar-Athletes for their tremendous work in the classroom during the past academic year.

The eight honorees included sophomore pitcher Mandi Adee (Kinderhook, N.Y.), sophomore catcher Morgan Cahill (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), sophomore shortstop Courtney Caputo (Stony Brook, N.Y.), junior first baseman Alicia Dean (Danvers, Mass.), sophomore pitcher Tricia Hansen (Mansfield, Mass.), sophomore second baseman Melissa Morgan (Clifton Park, N.Y.), junior outfielder Jamie Wiley (Cape Vincent, N.Y.), and sophomore third baseman Erin Wood (Dover, N.Y.).

The eight honorees qualified for the distinction after earning grade point averages of 3.5 or higher during the 2013-14 school year.

Adee, Cahill, Caputo, Dean, and Morgan earned the honor for the second-consecutive year. Hansen earned the academic award after a stellar 2014 season, which saw her earn First-Team All-Northeast-10 Conference honors as a utility player. Wiley picked up the honor in 2014 after turning in an inspiring performance both offensively and defensively after missing the entire 2013 campaign due to injury. Wood received the academic accolade in her first season in a Ravens uniform.

Franklin Pierce built a solid foundation for future success in 2014, as the Ravens concluded the campaign by winning eight of their last 11 games, including a win over eventual NE-10 champion Southern New Hampshire, and a four-game series sweep of Stonehill, which at the time was in first place in the NE-10 Northeast Division standings. Franklin Pierce also debuted its brand new Melissa Bisaccia Memorial Softball Complex during the campaign, which instantly proved to be a nice home field advantage.
