Rowing Takes Part in Head of the Charles Sunday

BOSTON (October 23, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University rowing team competed in the 54th Annual Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston/Cambridge, Mass. this past weekend. The Ravens finished in 38th place out of 40 squads.

FPU competed in the Women’s Collegiate 4+ event on Sunday afternoon. The boat line up was junior Sophia Alexandrou (Windham, N.H.), senior Shelby Telega (South Deerfield, Mass.), senior Marykate Cullinane (Medford, Mass.), senior Kaitlin Morin (Raymond, N.H.) and coxswain senior Kyra Fairley (Kingston, N.Y.).

“It was a challenging day as the team raced in 20 mph headwinds with 30 mph gusts in various directions on the course,” said head coach Sarah Caruthers. “I watched two boats in our event come to a complete stop because of the winds and they were idle for several strokes. I was very happy with how our team handled the race despite the tough conditions. Although we were not able to get the results we hoped for, we were able to accomplish several of our goals during this race and we are happy with the progression we have seen this season.”

On Saturday, the Ravens alumni competed in the Women’s Alumni 8+ event. Franklin Pierce finished in last. “It was great to see our alumni out on the water this weekend. Our current team enjoyed cheering on their alumni down the course. The alumni 8+ boat featured Megan DeFelice ’16, Gwenn Curtis ’08, Amanda Beasley ’16, Jenna Chiavelli ’18, Paige McGroarty ’15, Maegan Watson ’07, Amanda Ege ’07, Nicole Rode ’17, Bianca Baldelli ‘15.

The Ravens hit the water this coming Saturday, October 27th at the UMass-Lowell Halloween Regatta in Lowell, Mass.
