Rowing Concludes Season at New England Rowing Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. (May 6, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University rowing team headed back to Worcester this past Saturday to compete at the New England Rowing Championships.

“We may not have been one of the fastest crews out there today, but we have come a long ways from where we started in September,” said head coach Sarah Caruthers. “With 5k times improved by 2:00 and 2k times improved by over 1:00, I am extremely proud of how hard the team has worked this year. We have established tremendous momentum to build off of going into the summer and look forward to an exciting fall season.”

The Ravens Varsity 4+ squad won their Petite Final with a time of 8:40.5 and held a 51.2-second lead over runner-up Mass Maritime Academy. The athletes that raced in the Varsity 4+ race were junior Shelby Telega (South Deerfield, Mass.), sophomore Sophia Alexandrou (Windham, N.H.), junior Holly Hay (Miller Place, N.Y.), junior Kellie Crandall (North Stonington, Conn.), and coxswain Grace Walker (Greenfield, Mass.).

In the 2V4+ Petite Final, the Lightweight 4+ fought hard and placed fourth overall with a time of 8:51.58. Freshman Nicole McIntosh (North Pole, Alaska), freshman Katrina Wilson (Rindge, N.H.), senior Jenna Chiavelli (Methuen, Mass.), junior Kaitlin Morin (Raymond, N.H.) and coxswain Hannah Eldridge (Whitinsville, Mass.) all competed in the event.

“We will not be racing at Dad Vails this year after a number of unfortunate medical issues with our top boat. We look forward to coming back healthy next season and hope to visit the prestigious Dad Vails Regatta next May. We would like to say thank you to all of the crew we have met throughout our season. Who have supported us and challenged us to be our best.”
