Reed Earns All-Region Honors to Lead Men’s Cross Country to Ninth Place at NCAA East Regional

Jason Reed

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (November 17, 2018) – Junior Jason Reed (Foxborough, Mass.) earned All-East Region honors for the second straight season on Saturday afternoon, as he led the way for the Franklin Pierce University men's cross country team at the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Adelphi. Reed checked in with a 24th-place finish in the 170-runner field to lead the Ravens to a ninth-place finish, out of 24 teams.

"Jason Reed had a phenomenal day, earning All-Region honors for the second year in a row," said head coach Zach Emerson after the meet. "I am very proud of how he rose to the occasion and negotiated the tough, muddy conditions like a seasoned veteran."

Reed turned in a 10k time of 33:39.1 for his top-25 finish, with each of the top-25 finishers earning All-Region accolades. He led a pair of Ravens who finished inside the top 40, as well as three who placed in the top 60. Freshman Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) followed in 36th place, 11 spots out of an All-Region accolade of his own in his first college season, with a time of 34:11.1. Sophomore Antonio Rua (Burrillville, R.I.) clocked in at 35:03.1 to finish 58th.

"Freshman Riley Fenoff unfortunately battled illness this weekend," continued Emerson. "However, he can be very proud of how he performed in his first collegiate cross country season."

Franklin Pierce would put all five of its scoring runners inside the top 75, well within the top half of the field. Freshman Will Aylward (Peabody, Mass.) made it two scoring freshmen for the Ravens, with a 64th-place finish in a time of 35:20.2. Junior Walker John (Boscawen, N.H.) rounded out the team's scoring in 74th, with a time of 35:40.2. Sophomore Cody Tallent (Bellows Falls, Vt.) was hot on John's heels in 76th, at 35:47.5.

Stonehill put all five of its scoring runners inside the top 25 to collect 52 points and claim the East Regional team title. American International in second (63 points) and Southern Connecticut State in third (101) also punched their tickets through to the national championship meet on Saturday.

AIC senior Leakey Kipkosgei crossed the line in 31:11.5 to claim the individual title. He was followed by Stonehill senior Lucas Taxter in second (31:15.3) and Wilmington (Del.) senior Mark Corrigan in third (32:42.2).

The meet wrapped up the 2018 cross country season for Franklin Pierce.
