SARATOGA, N.Y. (September 29, 2018) – Freshman Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) led the way yet again on Saturday for the Franklin Pierce University men's cross country team. He and junior Jason Reed (Foxborough, Mass.) both notched top-15 finishes in a 241-runner field at the Saratoga Invitational, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. As a squad, the Ravens finished fifth in a 14-team meet which featured primarily Division III competition.

Fenoff chalked up an 8k time of 25:45.0 to finish in eighth place, while Reed followed in 13th position, with a time of 26:00.2. From there though, it was another 21 spots back to the next Raven, as sophomore Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) placed 34th, with a time of 26:34.7.

Franklin Pierce would put all five of its scoring members in the top 75, as junior Anthony Pizzo (Peabody, Mass.) and sophomore Cody Tallent (Bellows Falls, Vt.) finished in 64th and 71st, respectively. Pizzo turned in a time of 27:10.0, while Tallent followed in 27:16.4.

It all added up to 146 points for the Ravens, which left them well behind the rest of the top four. Host RPI collected just 26 points on the way to the team title, while Williams (65 points) and St. Lawrence (107 points) followed in second and third, respectively. Brockport's top runner finished in 14th, behind both Fenoff and Reed, but the Golden Eagles (109 points) still beat out the Ravens for fourth place, by 27 points. It all left head coach Zach Emerson with mixed feelings on the performance.

"The men got roughed up today by some very good teams," said Emerson after the meet. "It was a good measure of where we stack up, and it was nice to see a lot of our runners battle hard from the beginning, but it is clear a lot more work needs to be done over the next five weeks before the Northeast-10 Championships."

Emerson made sure to add plaudits for his top two runners, as well as Tallent, who scored for the first time this fall. "Fenoff, Reed and Tallent each had standout performances and can be proud of their efforts," the coach concluded.

The Ravens will take the next two weeks off from competition and return to action on Saturday, Oct. 20, when they host the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup in Hopkinton, N.H.
