Two Earn All-Conference Honors as Men’s Cross Country Takes Seventh at NE10 Championship

WESTFIELD, Mass. (October 22, 2017) – Freshman Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) finished 10th, while sophomore Jeff Reddy (Chester, N.H.) placed 15th, as both earned All-Conference honors on Sunday at Stanley Park. The youth movement led the Franklin Pierce University men's cross country team to a seventh-place finish (out of 14 teams) at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by American International College.

The Ravens put three runners in the top 50 of the 150-runner field, on the way to 167 points on the day. At the front of the field, Stonehill (44 points) narrowly edged host AIC (46 points) for the NE10 title. After the Yellow Jackets, it was 59 more points back to Southern New Hampshire in third place (105 points). Head coach Zach Emerson had said ahead of the meet he would measure his team's success based on its margin in back of the third-place team, which wound up at 62 points.

"The men did well, but still left a lot on the table, as there were a number of teams right within striking distance ahead of us," said Emerson after the race. "We have a fairly small gap of points to make up, and know we will only be getting better in the next two weeks."

Emerson added his goal for the NCAA East Regional in two weeks' time is a top-five finish for the squad.

Arlabosse turned in an 8k time of 25:30.46 to earn his top-10 finish. It marked the fastest 8k time in program history, as well as the top NE10 Championship finish by a freshman in school history.

Reddy followed in 15th, with a time of 25:45.61 to earn All-NE10 honors as well. Sophomore Jason Reed (Foxborough, Mass.) made it three Ravens in the top-50 by turning in a mark of 26:33.61, to finish 36th.

Franklin Pierce's scoring five on the afternoon was rounded out by freshman Anthony Pizzo (Peabody, Mass.) in 62nd and sophomore Walker John (Boscawen, N.H.) in 63rd, as all of the Ravens' points at the meet came from freshmen and sophomores. Pizzo clocked in at 27:24.72, with John right on his heels at 27:24.90.

At the top of the field, AIC junior Leakey Kipkosgei turned in a time of 24:38.67 to lead four Yellow Jackets in the top 10 and take home the individual crown. Stonehill put all five of its scoring runners in the top 15 to claim the team title.

The distance ramps up to 10k in two weeks, when the Ravens return to action at the NCAA Championship East Regional. Daemen College will host the event at Audubon Golf Course in Amherst, N.Y.
