Cross Country Picked to Finish Eighth (Men), Ninth (Women) at NE10 Championships

NE10 Cross Country Coaches' Polls

RINDGE, N.H. (October 20, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s cross country team has been picked up finish eighth, in a 15-team field, at the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championship, as announced on Thursday by the Conference office. In addition, the women’s team was selected to finish ninth.

The 37th annual NE10 Championships are set for Sunday, Oct. 22, and will be held at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. American International College will host the event.

A year ago, the Ravens finished fourth in the men’s competition and 10th on the women’s side, so the Coaches’ Poll forecasts a slight improvement for the women’s team and a step back for the men’s team. Coming off what he saw as a rough weekend two weeks ago at the NEICAAA Championships, head coach Zach Emerson’s stated goal for the men’s team is to be within striking distance of third place, which would leave the team poised for a strong performance at the NCAA Championship East Regional in two weeks’ time. Emerson has also said he hopes to see the women improve on last year’s position, which was already the best finish in program history.

Stonehill was picked to take home both team titles. On the men’s side, the Skyhawks collected 10 of 15 first-place votes to chalk up 191 points at the top of the Coaches’ Poll. Host AIC (184 points) was second, and received the remaining first-place votes. Southern New Hampshire (154 points), Adelphi (151 points) and Southern Connecticut State (133 points) rounded out the top five.

In the women’s poll, Stonehill collected 13 first-place votes and 195 points. The remaining two first-place votes went to Assumption (178 points) in second. AIC (168 points), Merrimack (147 points) and Bentley (128 points) filled out the top five.
