Arlabosse Takes Second in Collegiate Debut; Men’s Cross Country Fourth at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (September 29, 2017) – Freshman Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) posted a second-place finish in his first career collegiate race on Friday afternoon, to lead the Franklin Pierce University men's cross country team to a fourth-place finish (of 36 teams) at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University.

The Ravens put three in the top 50 of the 283-runner field, to post a score of 204 points on the way to the fourth-place finish. Franklin Pierce was just one point behind Cortland State (203 points), which finished third. Up front, Southern Connecticut State (134 points) took home the title, while Swarthmore (150 points) placed second.

"The men did well finishing fourth, but showed how young and inexperienced they are by going out too fast," said head coach Zach Emerson after the meet. "Still, I'm very proud with how hard they went for it. They are headed in the right direction with the championship meets looming."

Arlabosse laid down an 8k time of 25:48 to finish second, just nine seconds behind Wentworth senior Alex Robbins (25:39), who took home the individual crown. Arlabosse finished 70 seconds in front of the next-fastest freshman in the field, Andrew Lamb of Assumption, who finished fourth (25:58).

Joining Arlabosse in the top-50 for Franklin Pierce were senior Martin Gradijan (Lebanon, N.H.) in 35th and sophomore Tyler Hayes (Kings Park, N.Y.) in 48th. Gradijan put together a time of 26:48, while Hayes posted a 27:01.

Sophomores Jason Reed (Foxborough, Mass.) and Walker John (Boscawen, N.H.) rounded out the Ravens' scoring five in 55th and 64th positions, respectively. Reed stopped the clock at 27:07, while John clocked in at 27:18.

In all, Franklin Pierce would put seven runners into the race's top-100 finishers. Freshman Anthony Pizzo (Peabody, Mass.) placed 76th (27:27), and sophomore Jeff Reddy (Chester, N.H.) followed in 81st (27:29).

The Ravens return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7, when they travel to Franklin Park in Boston for the NEICAAA Championships.
