Handful of Indoor Track & Field Athletes Compete at 2023 John Thomas Terrier Classic (Boston University)

BOSTON, Mass. (1/29/23) – A small handful of Franklin Pierce indoor track & field athletes made their way down to Boston University to compete in the two-day 2023 John Thomas Terrier Classic, held at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.  

The two-day events saw a number of notable performances from the Ravens, including a pair of athletes hitting NCAA Provisional marks. From the women's side, senior runner Nyjah Young-Bey (Montclair, N.J.) placed 4th overall in the Women's 400-Meter, setting a new program record with a 56.05 finishing time. For the men, junior Stephen Harris (Billerica, Mass.) made the cut with a 21.52 race time in the Men's-200 Meter, placing 2nd overall.

Additional notables included a 3rd-fastest race time in program history for the Men's-800 Meter Run, a mark that was achieved by junior Ryan Walker (Seabrook, N.H.) at 1:53.93. In her collegiate debut in the Women's 800-Meter, senior Saylee Missell (Stafford Springs, Conn.) also claimed a 3rd-best finishing time in program history, crossing the line in 2:22.81.  

PIERCE PLUS PERFORMERS – MEN

  • Junior Stephen Harris finished 2nd in the Men's 200-Meter (21.52)
  • Senior Devin Jones (Manchester, N.H.) claimed 7th in the Men's 60-Meter Dash Open (7.17)
  • Junior Ryan Walker placed 24th out of 137 participants in the Men's 800-Meter (1:53.93)

 

PIERCE PLUS PERFORMERS – WOMEN

  • Senior Nyjah Young-Bey placed 4th in the Women's 400-Meter (56.05), 10th in the Women's 200-Meter (25.03).
  • Senior Saylee Missell placed 55th-of-94 in the Women's 800-Meter (2:22.81)
  • Senior Alena Thompson (Westampton, N.J.) crossed 58th overall in the Women's 800-Meter (2:23.81)

The indoor track & field crew will send select members back to Boston for next weekend's NEICAAA Championships, which will be held at The TRACK at New Balance over the course of two days.
