Guay Opens Season with NEICAAA Mark for Men’s Track & Field at UMass Boston Indoor Open

Trevor Guay

BOSTON (December 1, 2018) – Junior Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) punched his ticket to the NEICAAA Championships on the first day of the season on Saturday, as he hit the qualifying mark in the 400 meters. He won the event too, for good measure, to highlight the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team's season-opening appearance at the UMass Boston Indoor Open.

Guay led five top-five finishers for the Ravens on Saturday, with a run of 49.00 seconds to win the 400 meters. He picked up right where he left off, as Guay was an All-New England performer in the 400-meter hurdles during last year's outdoor season. Guay's season-opening performance assured him a spot in this winter's New England Championships, which will take place in early February.

All of Franklin Pierce's top-five performances came on the track at UMass Boston. Junior Tyler Hayes (Kings Park, N.Y.) finished fourth in the 1000 meters, with a time of 2:41.15, and he was followed closely in fifth place by sophomore Antonio Rua (Burrillville, R.I.), who posted a mark of 2:41.79.

Making his collegiate track & field debut after a standout cross country season, freshman Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) chalked up a fifth-place finish in the 5000 meters, with a run of 15:50.67.

Meanwhile, on the sprint side of things, senior Jaris Neville (Atlanta, Ga.) finished fourth in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 22.79. Neville also was able to qualify for the final of the 60-meter dash, as he placed fourth in the preliminary heats, with a time of 7.18 seconds. He posted an identical mark in the final, which was good for a seventh-place finish.

The Ravens return to action on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7-8, when they travel to New Haven, Connecticut, for the Elm City Challenge, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.
