Track & Field Set to Send Athletes to Multiple Elite Races in Coming Weeks

RINDGE, N.H. (April 19, 2018) – The next two weeks feature some of the biggest dates on the annual track & field calendar, highlighted by next week’s prestigious Penn Relays. In all, the Franklin Pierce University men’s and women’s track & field programs have 10 entries into premier meets over the next two weeks.

The excitement begins on the left coast on Friday afternoon. Graduate student Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) will be traveling to represent the men’s team at the Mt. SAC Relays, held on the campus of El Camino College in Torrance, Calif. He will compete in the 800 meters, which is slated for a 2:30 p.m. local start, which means Minors will run at 5:30 p.m. EDT. The Mt. SAC Relays routinely produce national championship qualifying times.

Also on Friday for the men, freshman Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) will be in action on the East Coast, as he heads to the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University. Arlabosse will also compete in the 800 meters, which is set to go at 7:20 p.m.

Next week, the Ravens have eight entries scheduled to compete in the 124th running of the Penn Relays, set for Thursday through Saturday, April 26-28 at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia. The women have four entries, beginning with sophomore Katey Comstock (Windsor, Vt.), who will partake in the shot put on Thursday at 12:45 p.m. Senior Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) follows in the hammer throw at 2:35 p.m. on Thursday. On Friday, junior Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) will take part in the triple jump at 11 a.m., followed by senior Miranda Gagnon (Rollinsford, N.H.) in the javelin at 4:45 p.m.

Meanwhile, three of the four men’s entries will be plying their trade out on the track at the Penn Relays. Sophomore Jeff Reddy (Chester, N.H.) will start things off under the lights on Thursday night, as he will participate in the 5000 meters at 9:25 p.m. On Friday, sophomore Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) will take a lap in the 400-meter hurdles at 9 a.m.

The lone field event entry on the men’s side of things comes via senior Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.), who will hop, skip and jump his way through the triple jump beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The Ravens close out their participation at the Penn Relays with an actual relay race on Saturday afternoon. Arlabosse, graduate student Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.), senior Joshua Ercolini (Woburn, Mass.) and Minors will work the baton around the track eight times as they team up for the 4x800-meter relay.

In addition to the select individuals at the premier meets over the next two weeks, Franklin Pierce will have its full team in action at the Spring Classic, hosted by the University at Albany, on Saturday, April 21, as well as the CCSU Blue Devil Invite, hosted by Central Connecticut State, on Saturday, April 28.
