Three Event Wins Propel Men’s Track & Field to Second Place at Coast Guard Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. (April 7, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team utilized three event wins and 11 top-three finishes on Saturday to chalk up a second-place finish at the Coast Guard Invitational. Freshman Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) led the way by winning the 1500 meters, finishing second in the 800 meters and anchoring a second-place finish for the 4x400-meter relay team.

In all, Franklin Pierce collected 126 points to finish second out of seven teams to score at the meet. Host Coast Guard took home the title with 201 points, while the Ravens narrowly edged out Westfield State, which finished third with 118 points.

Arlabosse collected a win in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:03.60, to claim 10 points for the team, and added eight more points with a second-place time of 1:55.76 in the 800 meters. He also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay, which also tallied eight points for a second place finish. A lineup of senior Joshua Ercolini (Woburn, Mass.), senior Nichols Jacques (Westfield, Mass.), freshman Colin Stoddard (Charlton, Mass.) and Arlabosse put together a time of 3:25.86.

Jacques also picked up one of the other wins on the day for the Ravens, as he snagged 10 points with a run of 11.03 seconds in the 100-meter dash. The remaining victory, along with 10 more points, came courtesy of sophomore Jack Ehrhardt (Point Pleasant, N.J.), who fired the javelin 51.16 meters.

Ehrhardt also collected six more points with a third-place finish in the high jump, as he got up and over 1.78 meters. Junior Robert Boardman (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) also cleared 1.78 meters in the high jump, and finished fourth for five points, one spot behind Ehrhardt.

Jacques led a one-two finish for the Ravens in the 100-meter dash, as he was followed by junior Jaris Neville (Atlanta, Ga.), who tallied eight points for second place, with a mark of 11.18 seconds. Franklin Pierce went two-three in the long jump, with senior Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.) placing second for eight points (6.58m) and sophomore Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) taking third for six points (6.24m).

The remaining individual top-three finish for Franklin Pierce came in the shot put. Senior Peter Murray (Tewksbury, Mass.) notched six points with a third-place heave of 12.51 meters. It was part of an eight-point day for Murray, who also placed seventh for two points in the hammer throw, with a distance of 38.73 meters.

The Ravens got a second-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay to round out their collection of 11 top-three finishes on Saturday. The team earned eight points courtesy of sophomore Gerald Leith (Dorchester, Mass.), Jacques, sophomore Jebediah Hogan (Gloucester, Mass.) and senior Daniel Warner (Windham, N.H.), who got the baton around the track in 43.59 seconds.

Outside of the top-three finishes and Murray's aforementioned seventh, the Ravens had nine other point-scoring performances on Saturday. Junior Nicholas Marinuzzi (North Haven, Conn.) had two of the nine on his own, by placing fourth in both the shot put (12.19m) and the javelin (43.58m).

In field events, Franklin Pierce had further scoring in the discus, the javelin and the pole vault. Freshman Clifton Leggo (Woodbury, Conn.) placed sixth in the discus (33.56m), sophomore Cameron Torres (Manchester, Conn.) took seventh in the javelin (36.88m) and junior Ryan Woolley (Wallingford, Conn.) finished seventh in the pole vault (3.35m).

A quartet of further scoring performances came out on the track for the Ravens. Hogan finished fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.24), sophomore Jeff Reddy (Chester, N.H.) placed fourth in the 1500 meters (4:10.99), Stoddard took seventh in the 400 meters (52.68) and Ercolini was seventh in the 800 meters (2:02.42).

The Ravens return to action on April 13-14, when they return to New London for the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College.
