Track & Field Returns to Action at Dartmouth Relays
HANOVER, N.H. (January 7, 2018) – In order to shake off the rust of the semester break, select members of the Franklin Pierce University track & field teams made their way to the Dartmouth Relays to compete on Sunday.
The men picked up eight points to finish in a tie for 11th, while the women tallied two points to tie for 17th. Host Dartmouth won the women's meet handily, while Northeastern captured first place on the men's side.
Senior Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.) led the way for the men, with the only individual top-five finish of the day. He turned in a mark of 13.19 meters to finish fourth in the triple jump. Pierre-Canel also notched a top-10 in the long jump as well, as he posted a leap of 6.31 meters to finish 10th.
Other individual results of note on the men's side included a seventh-place finish for sophomore Jack Ehrhardt (Point Pleasant, N.J.) in the high jump (1.85m), a 12th-place finish for senior Joshua Ercolini (Woburn, Mass.) in the 400 meters (52.27), and a 15th-place finish for senior CeCe Telfer (Lebanon, N.H.) in the 60-meter hurdles (8.91).
The Raven men also posted a top-five finish in the 4x200-meter relay. A squad of sophomore Jebediah Hogan (Gloucester, Mass.), senior Daniel Warner (Windham, N.H.), freshman Colin Stoddard (Charlton, Mass.) and sophomore Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) turned in a time of 1:34.08 to finish fifth.
On the women's side of things, senior Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) had the most impressive outing of the day, as she finished fifth in the weight throw, with a heave of 15.69 meters. To showcase how impressive Quinn's early season has been, the throw was nearly two meters shy of her best performance of the year, but Sunday's mark still would have qualified her for the NEICAAA Championships, were she not already qualified.
Results of note elsewhere for the women included a seventh-place finish for sophomore Olivia Mabbett (Milford, N.H.) in the high jump (1.55m), a 10th-place finish for junior Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) in the triple jump (10.64m), and a 14th-place finish for sophomore Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.) in the 800 meters (2:34.36).
The Ravens return the full squad to action next weekend, on Saturday, Jan. 13, when they travel to the Middlebury Winter Classic, hosted by Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt.
