Men’s Track & Field’s Minors Through to Final of 800m at NCAA Championships

BRADENTON, Fla. (May 26, 2017) – Once again, senior Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) has qualified for a national championship race at the NCAA Championships. On Friday evening, in the preliminary rounds of the 800 meters at IMG Academy, Minors ran the day's fifth-fastest time and punched his ticket through to Saturday's final.

Minors lined up in the outside lane for the first of the evening's three 800-meter preliminary heats. With the top two finishers from each heat automatically advancing through to the final, Minors laid down a time of 1:50.78 to finish second and snag one of those automatic bids. The time was 1.39 seconds off of his season best. By qualifying for the final, Minors has secured his fifth career All-America honor.

William Mayhew, a sophomore from University of Colorado Colorado Springs, will lead the field into Saturday's final, after putting down a preliminary time of 1:50.49.

The NCAA Championships, which are co-hosted by University of Tampa and the IMG Academy, will wrap up with finals across many events on Saturday. The 800-meter final is set to be contested at 7:05 p.m.
