Minors Part of Two Titles to Lead Men’s Track & Field to Program-Best Second at NE10 Championships

EASTON, Mass. (May 7, 2017) – Senior Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) was a part of his 17th and 18th career Northeast-10 Conference titles on Sunday, and his performance led the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team to a program-best second-place finish at the NE10 Championships, hosted by Stonehill College.

The Ravens, who finished fourth a year ago, chalked up points with 15 performances on Sunday to improve by two spots this spring. Southern Connecticut State (239 points) had opened up a gap on Saturday and ran away with the NE10 team title on Sunday, posting the victory by over 100 points. Franklin Pierce notched 114.5 points to place second and narrowly edge out third-place Stonehill (113 points).

Minors picked up an NE10 title as an individual in the 800 meters on Sunday. He stopped the clock at 1:52.22 to pick up 10 points for the Ravens.

Minors also ran the anchor leg on Franklin Pierce's victorious 4x400-meter relay, which laid down a school-record time of 3:18.92 to pick up 10 points. The lineup was freshman Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) to junior Nicholas Jacques (Westfield, Mass.) to junior Joshua Ercolini (Woburn, Mass.) to Minors, and the time currently sits third in the East Region.

The 4x400-meter title was part of an impressive day for Jacques, who was a part of four different point-scoring performances and three school records for the Ravens. He also ran the anchor leg for the 4x100-meter relay, which also turned in a school record while finishing second to pick up eight points. A quartet of sophomore Jaris Neville (Atlanta, Ga.), senior Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.), freshman Gerald Leith (Dorchester, Mass.) and Jacques got the baton around the track in 42.07 seconds, which currently ranks third in the East Region.

Individually, Jacques also scored in a pair of sprint events. In the 200-meter dash, he turned in a school-record time of 21.93 seconds to finish fourth and earn five points. In the 100-meter dash, he placed fifth, with a time of 10.94 seconds, to tally four points.

The 200-meter dash was one of four events where Franklin Pierce had multiple athletes score points. Neville placed one spot behind Jacques in fifth (21.98) to add on four points. In the high jump, sophomore Robert Boardman (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) cleared 1.88 meters to tie for fourth and notch 4.5 points, while freshman David Testa (North Andover, Mass.) got up and over 1.83 meters to finish eighth and pick up one point. In the 110-meter hurdles, junior Craig Telfer (Lebanon, N.H.) picked up six points by finishing third (15.18), while Cataldo collected five points for a fourth-place finish (15.38).

Meanwhile, in the decathlon, senior Alex Bonitto (Lynn, Mass.) placed second (5961 points) for eight points, while fellow senior John Delahanty (Long Beach, N.Y.) finished sixth (5640 points) to collect three points. Bonitto's performance was good enough to rank second in the East Region, while Delahanty's ranks seventh.

Elsewhere, three other Ravens picked up points on Sunday at Stonehill. In the triple jump, junior Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.) moved up to fifth in the East Region in a triple jump, by posting a mark of 14.36 meters to finish fourth and notch five points. Meanwhile, junior Martin Gradijan (Lebanon, N.H.) and freshman Jeff Reddy (Chester, N.H.) each notched three points to round out the scoring. Gradijan finished sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:03.41), while Reddy placed sixth in the 5000 meters (15:26.33).

The Ravens return to the track on May 12-13, when select members participate in the NEICAAA Championships, hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.
