Bonitto, Galewski Each Earn Fourth-Place Medals as Track & Field Opens Trip to Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA (April 26, 2017) – Seniors Alex Bonitto (Lynn, Mass.) and Nicole Galewski (Whitman, Mass.) represented the Franklin Pierce University track & field team in the decathlon and heptathlon, respectively, on Tuesday and Wednesday, as the Ravens opened their annual trip to the fabled Penn Relays. Each finished in fourth place to come away with medals after their respective two-day events at historic Franklin Field.

Bonitto collected a season-best 5526 points to place fourth, out of five participants, in the decathlon. His highest point performance came in the 400-meter dash, where he put down a time of 52.49 seconds to finish second and earn 703 points. Along the way, Bonitto posted event wins in both the shot put (12.01m for 607 points) and the 1500 meters (4:38.58 for 689 points).

Meanwhile, Galewski tallied 4160 points to place fourth, out of eight entrants, in the heptathlon. Her highest point total came in the 100-meter hurdles, where she placed third with a time of 15.89 seconds to earn 728 points. Along the way, she also finished second in the long jump (5.06m for 576 points) and third in the shot put (9.55m for 500 points).

Franklin Pierce will continue its trip to the City of Brotherly Love with participants spread across four events on Thursday, as the Penn Relays get started in earnest. For the women, Catherine Purves will take part in the 400-meter hurdles, while the Ravens will field teams in the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays as well. On the men's side of things, B.J. Smith will take to the track in the 5000 meters.
