Pair of All-New England Performances Highlight First Day of NEICAAA Championships for Men’s Track & Field

BOSTON (February 24, 2017) – Junior Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.) in the long jump, as well as the distance medley relay squad both earned All-New England honors for the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team on Friday at the first day of the NEICAAA Championships, held at Reggie Lewis Center. In addition, senior Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) qualified for the final of the 800 meters, ensuring he will earn All-New England honors on Saturday.

Franklin Pierce collected four points on the day, which placed it in a tie for 15th, out of 23 teams to score points. The NEICAAA Championships wrap up on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Pierre-Canel picked up three of those points himself, with his sixth-place finish in the long jump. He posted a mark of 6.73 meters to earn All-New England accolades.

The distance medley relay team picked up the remaining point with its eighth-place, All-New England finish. A quartet of freshman Tyler Hayes (Kings Park, N.Y.), junior Adam Bryson (Lynn, Mass.), freshman Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) and senior B.J. Smith (Concord, N.H.) posted a time of 10:27.49.

Elsewhere, Minors ensured he will collect All-New England honors on Saturday, as he won his heat in the 800 meters to advance to the final. His heat time of 1:53.73 was the fourth-fastest on the day. The 800-meter final is set for 2:55 p.m. on Saturday.

Two other Ravens joined Minors in the 800-meter field. Junior Joshua Ercolini (Woburn, Mass.) finished 23rd, with a run of 1:56.44, while Bryson took 31st, with a time of 2:03.72.

Meanwhile, Pierre-Canel was also joined by two other Ravens in the long jump field. Senior Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) narrowly missed All-New England honors by finishing ninth, with a leap of 6.64 meters, while fellow senior Alex Bonitto (Lynn, Mass.) placed 16th, with a mark of 5.93 meters.

Two more Ravens were in action on Friday in Boston, both back out on the track. Sophomore Jaris Neville (Atlanta, Ga.) finished 21st in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 22.67 seconds, while junior Nicholas Jacques (Westfield, Mass.) placed 17th in the 400 meters, with a mark of 50.63 seconds.
