Biunno Wins Twice for Men’s Track & Field at Capital District Classic

TROY, N.Y. (April 30, 2016) – Senior Vinny Biunno (Montgomery, N.Y.) picked up wins in both the high jump and the pole vault on Saturday, leading the way for the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team at the Capital District Classic, hosted by RPI.

The meet served as the final tune-up for the team before the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, which are set for Friday and Saturday, May 6-7, hosted by American International in Springfield, Mass.

Biunno's marks were also both good enough to rank in the top two in the Northeast-10 in their respective events so far this spring. In the high jump, he cleared 2.00 meters, which is the best jump thus far in the league. In the pole vault, Biunno got up and over 4.50 meters, which ranks second in the NE-10.

Two other Ravens had strong doubles on the day as well. Out on the track, sophomore Nicholas Jacques (Westfield, Mass.) took second in both the 100- (11.03) and 200-meter (22.51) dashes. The 100 time ranks fourth in the Northeast-10, while the 200 time tied for ninth in the league. In field events, sophomore Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.) won the long jump with a leap of 6.87 meters and finished second in the triple jump, with a mark of 13.76 meters. The long jump mark currently ranks eighth in the NE-10.

Franklin Pierce put together two other notable marks on the day. On the track, senior Mitchel McNanna (Milford, Mass.) was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 57.69 seconds, which ranks 10th in the NE-10. Junior Mark Choiniere (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) also finished sixth, in the pole vault, by clearing 3.90 meters, which puts him 10th in the league.
