Men’s Track & Field’s Delahanty Finishes 14th at Holy Cross Decathlon

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 21, 2016) – Junior John Delahanty (Long Beach, N.Y.) of the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team finished 14th this week at the Holy Cross Decathlon.

Delahanty finished 14th out of 20 athletes competing in the event, with 5586 points over the two days, which is currently good for third in the Northeast-10 Conference.

The first five events occurred on Wednesday at Holy Cross. Delahanty picked up 2782 points on the first day, including opening with his highest output of the two days, garnering 647 points for posting a 100-meter dash time of 12.02 seconds. On Wednesday, he also added 559 points for a long jump of 5.87 meters, 474 points for heaving the shot put 9.81 meters, 472 points for clearing 1.61 meters in the high jump, and 630 points for running a 400-meter time of 54.24 seconds.

After a first-day total of 2782 points, Delahanty added 2804 points over five events on Thursday to complete his 5586-point outing. He topped out at 645 points on the second day, courtesy of a pole vault of 4.10 meters, while also collecting 624 points with a 1500-meter time of 4:49.06, 605 points with a 110-meter hurdles time of 17.19 seconds, 558 points with a javelin throw of 47.95 meters, and 372 points with a discus throw of 25.28 meters.

The Ravens return the full squad to the track on Saturday, April 23, when they travel to the George Davis Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell in Lowell, Mass.
