Holmes top-15 in NE-10 in two events

BOSTON (February 13, 2016) – Junior Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) moved into the top-15 in the Northeast-10 Conference in two events on Saturday, while sophomore Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.) and graduate student Andre Wooten (St. Charles, Mo.) posted top-10 finishes to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University.

Both top-10 finishes came in field events. Wooten put together a hop, skip and jump of 14.27 meters to finish eighth in the triple jump for the Ravens. Meanwhile, Pierre-Canel placed 10th in the long jump, with a leap of 6.74 meters.

On the other hand, Holmes did his damage on the track, as he put together a pair of season-best runs on the day. In the 800 meters, he placed 56th with a time of 1:54.86, which is currently good for ninth in the Northeast-10. In the mile, he finished 101st with a time of 4:18.73, which is good for 12th in the Conference. Holmes had company in the mile, where junior B.J. Smith (Concord, N.H.) finished 59th with a time of 4:14.31, which currently ranks seventh in the league.

Several other Ravens turned in notable times on the track on Saturday at BU. Franklin Pierce put a pair of top-30 finishes on the board in the 60-meter hurdles. Senior Vincent Biunno (Montgomery, N.Y.) checked in at 24th with a time of 8.46 seconds, which currently ranks fourth in the Northeast-10. A few spots farther back, junior Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) turned in a time of 8.54 seconds to finish 30th.

Elsewhere, freshman Jaris Neville (Atlanta, Ga.) moved into a tie for 14th in the Northeast-10 in the 200 meters, with a season-best time of 22.62 seconds, which was good for a tie for 83rd. In the 400 meters, sophomore Joshua Ercolini (Woburn, Mass.) moved to 14th in the Northeast-10, with a season-best time of 50.68 seconds, which allowed him to finish 106th.

Back in field events, senior Chris Bohi (Loudon, N.H.) turned in a season best in the weight throw. He finished 24th with a heave of 13.95 meters, which currently ranks 12th in the Northeast-10.

Elsewhere on Saturday, junior Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) was on the other side of the country, competing in the 800 meters at the Husky Classic, hosted by the University of Washington in Seattle. He finished 18th in the event, turning in a time of 1:51.64.

The Ravens return to the track on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Northeast-10 Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
