Cataldo wins long jump

HANOVER, N.H. (January 10, 2016) – Shaking off the rust after nearly a month without competing, the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team still put together a sixth-place finish on Sunday at the Dartmouth Relays. The host Big Green piled up 164 points to coast to the victory in the meet, while the Ravens picked up 20 points to place sixth.

Fielding only a partial squad this week, prior to returning the whole squad to action next week, Franklin Pierce collected all its points in just two events on Sunday. Junior Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) did half the damage himself, as he picked up 10 points for winning the long jump with a leap of 6.55 meters.

Franklin Pierce's remaining 10 points came in the triple jump, where sophomore Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.) and junior Cody Steed (Chichester, N.H.) finished third and fourth, respectively. Pierre-Canel posted a mark of 13.04 meters to earn six points, while Steed's 12.84 meters earned four points.

Elsewhere on Sunday, the Ravens had a pair of performances worth mentioning in the mile, where senior Colton Ham (Webster, N.H.) ran a 4:22.25 to finish eighth. The time converts down to a 4:18.95, which is good for third in the Northeast-10 Conference and is just a shade over two seconds off the NEICAAA Championships qualifying standard. Farther down the list in the mile, junior Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) ran a 4:34.07 to finish 26th. Holmes' time converts down to a 4:30.62, which currently ranks eighth in the Northeast-10.

The Ravens return to action on Friday, Jan. 15, when they send select athletes to the East Coast Challenge in New York City. The full squad returns to the track on Saturday, Jan. 16 at the Plymouth State Invitational in Plymouth, N.H.
