Biunno Wins Decathlon Day Two of NEICAAA Championships

BOSTON (May 8, 2015) – Junior Vinny Biunno (Montgomery, N.Y.) of the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team placed first in the Decathlon on Friday on the second day of the NEICAAA Championships hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His win marks the first outdoor New England title in program history.

Although Southern Connecticut's Connor Coleman led day two with 3,250 points, Biunno earned first place all around with 6,684 points- holding onto first place by just three points, after her was up as many as 85 points on the first day. Biunno earned the top spot in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.94 and placed third in the pole vault with a distance of 4.05 meters. In the discus throw he placed seventh with a time of 25.54 meters- his weakest event of the day. He placed fifth in the final two events, the javelin throw with a distance of 43.25 meters and had a time of 4:43.93 in the 1500 meter run. 

Sophomore Alex Bonitto (Lynn, Mass.) placed first in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:24.96 to earn 778 points to place him eighth overall to earn the final All New England spot.

Junior Chris Bohi (Loudon, N.H.) placed 12th  out of 19 in the Javelin throw with a final distance of 53.49 meters. Junior Ryan Dionne (Amesbury, Mass.) placed 25th out of 33 in the preliminary round of the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.17. Freshman Nicholas Jacques (Westfield, Mass.) placed 19th out of 30 in the 200 meter dash preliminaries with a time of 22.43.Sophomore BJ Smith (Concord, N.H.) placed 13th out of 22 runners in the 10000 meter run with a time of 32:14.08. Sophomore Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) placed 16th out of 25 runners in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.41, he also placed 23rd out of 32 in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.22.

 

The team returns for the final day of the NEICAAA Championships on Saturday, May 9th.
