Ham tops 5000 meter run as Men’s Track competes at AIC Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 4, 2015) – Junior Colton Ham (Webster, N.H.) put on a show in the 5000 meter run on Saturday, as he took home victory in the event as the Franklin Pierce University Men's Track and Field team competed in the AIC Invitational hosted at American International College in Springfield, Mass. The ended the competition in seventh place, collecting 48 total points on the day.

Ham set a time of 15:06.93 in the event, and continues his dominance in the event out of other competitiors in the Northeast-10.

Ham wasn't the only successful runner on the day, as junor Ryan Dionne (Amesbury, Mass.) had a solid individual finish of third place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.25 seconds. Sophomore Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) would also bring home a top five finish, finishing fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:01.74. 

Sophomore B.J. Smith (Concord, N.H.) was able to how his talent in multiple events, with two top-20 finishes on the day. His 16th place finish in the 1500 meters would come with a time of 4:13.10, while brining home an amazing seventh place finish in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:35.23. 

Like Smith, sophomore Danny Warner (Windham, N.H.) would show off his skills with two top-10 finishes on the day, with his most notable finish coming in the 100-meter dash, finishing eighth with a time of 11.50 seconds. His other finish would come in the 110-meter hurdles, a ninth place finish with a time of 16.17 seconds.

Other notable Ravens finishes on the track came form other various events. Freshman Nick Jacques (Westfield, Mass.) finished eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.61 seconds. Following that came a trio of tenth place finishes, as Alex Bonitto (Lynn, Mass.) finished with a time of 2:02.26 in the 800 meters, Mark Choiniere (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) with a time of 16.31 in the 110 meter hurdles, and Makopa Mugbirwa (Concord, N.H.) with a time of 34:46.96 in the 10,000 meter run.

The two men's relay teams also put up top times on the scoreboard on the day. The 4x100 meter relay team of Kevin Sadoski (Glastonbury, Conn.), Warner, Jacques, and Dionne put down a time of 43.90 seconds, collecting a fourth place finish. The 4x400 meter relay team would up the ante, as Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.), Josh Ercolini (Woburn, Mass.), Matt Carpenter (Gloucester, Mass.), and Holmes posted a time of 3:28.37 minutes, finishing second in the event.

On the field side of things, the Ravens got two fifth place finishes from freshman Rindal Pierre-Canal (Randolph, Mass.) and junior Chris Bohi (Loudon, N.H.). Pierre-Canal would finish fifth in the triple jump after collecting a distance of 12.63 meters. Bohi posted his finish in the javelin, throwing a distance of 53.85 meters.

The Ravens return to action next Friday, April 10 when they travel to New London, Conn. to compete at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College.
