Minors' 800m Highlights Men's Track and Field's Second Day at Elm City Challenge

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 12, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce men's track team placed second out of four teams in the second day of the Elm City Challenge hosted by Southern Connecticut State University. Sophomore Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) and sophomore Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) met NEICAAA Championships qualifying times. Minors also posted the school record and met the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying standard with a time of 1:52.30.

Sophmore Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and junior Kevin Sadoski (Glastonbury, Conn.) each placed in the top 10 for the 200meter dash, finishing in the seventh with a time of 23.71 and eighth with a time of 23.73 respectively.

Two Ravens were in the top five for the 400meter dash. Freshman Nick Jacques placed fourth with a time of 52.78, followed in fifth place by freshman Joshua Ercolini at 53.05. 

Minors placed first in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:52.30- posting the school record, meeting NEICAAA Championships qualifying times and NCAA Championships provisional qualifying standard. Holmes placed second with 1:57.32 also meeting NEICAAA Championships qualifying times. Sophomore Matthew Carpenter (Gloucester, Mass.) placed fourth with a time of 2:00.37.

Franklin Pierce stole the show in the mile run , taking the top three spots. Junior Colton Ham (Webster, N.H.) took first with a time of 4.21.65. Senior Antoine Gisore (Concord, N.H.) took second with a time of 4:21.78 followed by Sophomore BJ Smith (Concord, N.H.) in third at 3:23.09.

Nine of the top 10 spots belonged to Franklin Pierce in the 3000 meter run. Gisore in first with 8:46.55, second Smith with 8:55.93 and Colton at 4:35.11 in third. Junior Makopa Rugabirwa (Concord, N.H.) placed fifth at 9:04.89 and Minors in sixth at 9:13.39.  Freshman Luke Thresher (Coventry, Conn.) would take seventh at 9:14.52 followed by Holmes in eighth at 9:15.66. Freshman Brendan McCoo took ninth at 9:19.87 and junior Isaac Fithian (Concord, N.H.) took tenth with 9.24.34.

Sophomore Chris Bohi (Loudon, N.H.) placed fourth in the men's shot put with a distance of 12.49 meters and fifth in the weight throw at 13.72 meters. 

Junior Vincent Biunno (Montgomery, N.H.) competed in the Heptathlon, placing first in the 55 meter hurdle with a time of 7.79 earning the Ravens 886 points. He placed third in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:54.42 and second in the pole vault at 13-01.50.

The Ravens appear next at the Dartmouth Relays, hosted by Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., on Sunday January 11th.
