Men’s Track & Field Posts Four Strong Finishes at Silfen Invitational

Rest of Ravens in action Saturday at Brown

Ham NEW LONDON, Conn. (April 10, 2015) – Junior Colton Ham (Webster, N.H.) won the 3000-meter steeplechase on Friday as one of four members of the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team to compete on the first day of the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College. The first day of the Silfen Invitational features the running of the elite sections of distance events, with only select student-athletes invited to participate.

Ham's steeplechase time of 9:30.56 was not his best mark of the season in the event, but was enough to win by nearly 10 seconds in the six-person race. His time from the Shamrock Invitational earlier in the season still ranks second in the Northeast-10 on the year.

The other three Ravens to compete on Friday in The Whaling City each posted their fastest time of the season in their respective events. Sophomore B.J. Smith (Concord, N.H.) posted a career-best mark of 31:28.80 -- which ranks second in the Northeast-10 -- to finish second in the 10,000 meters. Sophomore Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) ran the Northeast-10's top time thus far (1:53.49) to finish third in the 800 meters. Sophomore Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) notched a 3:58.68 in the 1500 meters to finish third and now ranks third in the Northeast-10 in the event.

The rest of the Ravens return to action on Saturday, when the full squad travels to Providence, R.I. for the Brown Invitational.
