Abrams Wins 200m, Gisore Tops Northeast-10 in Mile for Men’s Track & Field at Jay Carisella Invitational

Biunno, Bohi into top-five in NE-10 in pole vault

Gisore Gisore posted the top time in the Northeast-10 in the mile on Saturday at Northeastern's Jay Carisella Invitational.

ROXBURY, Mass. (December 14, 2013) – Sophomore Antoine Gisore (Concord, N.H.) posted the Northeast-10 Conference's top time thus far in the mile with a 4:16.26 to finish third for the Franklin Pierce University men's track and field team on Saturday at the Jay Carisella Invitational, hosted by Northeastern at the Reggie Lewis Center. The run highlighted five top-five finishes for the Ravens at the meet.

Franklin Pierce picked up a win at the meet among those top-fives, courtesy of sophomore Mike Abrams (Newark, N.J.), who ran a time of 22.20 in the 200-meter dash, besting a field which featured 23 runners from Division I institutions. For Abrams, the time was just five-hundredths of a second off his personal-best, which was set last week at the UMass Boston Indoor Open. Elsewhere on Saturday, Abrams also finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.10, which was tops among non-Division I competition at the meet.

Meanwhile, Gisore led three Ravens in the top five in the mile on Saturday afternoon with a third-place finish. After conversion due to the size of the track at the Reggie Lewis Center, his time ranks first in the Northeast-10 in 2013-14, by nearly three seconds, and also meets the qualifying standard for the New England Championships. Behind Gisore, freshman Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) took fourth (4:19.04), while sophomore Makopa Rugabirwa (Concord, N.H.) placed fifth (4:19.17).

Rugabirwa also put together a solid showing in the 3,000 meters, where he finished seventh with a time of 8:44.90. After conversion, Rugabirwa now ranks third in the Northeast-10 in the event.

The Ravens' strongest showing in field events came in the pole vault, where sophomores Vincent Biunno (Montgomery, N.Y.) and Chris Bohi (Loudon, N.H.) tied each other for sixth by clearing a height of 3.80 meters. The mark left the duo tied with each other for fourth in the Northeast-10.

The meet was not scored from a team perspective.

The Ravens return to the track on Sunday, Jan. 12, when they travel to the Dartmouth Relays.
