EASTON, Mass. (May 2, 2014) – Freshman B.J. Smith (Concord, N.H.) won the 10,000 meters, while the 4x800-meter relay team added a win as well on Friday, to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University men's track and field team at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by Stonehill at W.B. Mason Stadium. Through the first day of the two-day event, the Ravens have collected 48 points and are tied for third out of 10 teams.

Franklin Pierce picked up a pair of Northeast-10 titles on the meet's first day. In the 10,000 meters, Smith earned his first career conference title, as he ran a 31:37.99 to trump his previous season-best time by over 90 seconds. Meanwhile, the 4x800-meter relay team of freshman Matt Carpenter (Gloucester, Mass.), sophomore Makopa Rugabirwa (Concord, N.H.), junior Antoine Gisore (Concord, N.H.) and freshman Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) ran the Northeast-10's best time of the year, indoor or outdoor, to win in 7:38.57. Both victories earned 10 points apiece for Franklin Pierce.

Though no Ravens won the pole vault on Friday, four combined to pick up 14 points in the event. Sophomore Chris Bohi (Loudon, N.H.), freshman Mark Choiniere (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and freshman John Delahanty (Long Beach, N.Y.) all cleared 3.95 meters to tie each other for fourth. The mark was a season best for Choiniere, as the trio earned four points each. Sophomore Max Fanwick (Wilton, Conn.) also cleared 3.95 meters, a season best for him, but finished seventh after tiebreakers to pick up two points.

Elsewhere in field events, Franklin Pierce picked up six points in the javelin, courtesy of Bohi. He recorded a throw of 59.38 meters, his longest of the season, to finish third and pick up six points.

Back on the track, freshman Brian Dunleavy (Orange, Conn.) also picked up points in the 10,000 meters, behind Smith, as he ran a season-best 33:19.61 to finish seventh and earn two points. Elsewhere, both Gisore and Minors finished in scoring position in the 1500 meters. The former ran a 3:55.05 to finish fourth for five points, while the latter posted a 4:02.60 to finish eighth with one point.
