4x100 posts second-place finish

Cataldo Cataldo placed fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 400-meter hurdles on Saturday at the George Davis Invitational.

LOWELL, Mass. (April 12, 2014) – Sophomore Max Fanwick (Wilton, Conn.) tied for second in the pole vault on Saturday afternoon to post the highest finish of the day for the Franklin Pierce University men's track and field team, which posted nine top-five finishes at the George Davis Invitational, hosted by Massachusetts Lowell.

Fanwick cleared a height of 3.85 meters to finish tied for second and match his best vault so far in 2013-14, spanning both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Freshman Mark Choiniere (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) also cleared 3.85 meters to also match his 2013-14 best, but finished fourth after tiebreakers were applied.

The two pole vaulters were among four top-five finishes in field events for the Ravens on Saturday. Sophomore Chris Bohi (Loudon, N.H.) took fourth in the javelin, with a throw of 57.57 meters, which was tentatively good for fourth in the Northeast-10, though the national reporting site has not yet been updated with all of Saturday's meets. In the long jump, freshman Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished fifth with a mark of 6.44 meters, which matched his best effort of 2013-14. Cataldo also finished just outside of the top five in the 400-meter hurdles, where he placed sixth (57.53), with a time which sits fourth in the Northeast-10.

Five other Ravens cracked the top five on the track on Saturday, led by a third-place finish for sophomore Ryan Dionne (Amesbury, Mass.) in the 100-meter dash (11.61). Franklin Pierce took third, fourth and fifth in the 100 meters, as sophomore Connor Rogowsky (Nashua, N.H.) took fourth in 11.68 seconds, while freshman Dave LaGuerra (Mastic, N.Y.) was fifth in 11.76 seconds.

Elsewhere, in the two-mile run -- a distance which is not raced at the NCAA Championship level -- junior Antoine Gisore (Concord, N.H.) placed third (9:25.22) and freshman B.J. Smith (Concord, N.H.) took fourth (9:27.16).

The Ravens return to the track on Saturday, April 19, at the Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass.
