Men’s Track & Field Trio Strong in 1,000m to Lead Way at Dartmouth Classic

Choiniere adds season best in pole vault

Minors Minors ran the Northeast-10's fastest time int he 1,000 meters this season on Saturday at the Dartmouth Classic.

HANOVER, N.H. (February 1, 2014) – Freshman Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda), junior Antoine Gisore (Concord, N.H.) and sophomore Makopa Rugabirwa (Concord, N.H.) all ran 1,000-meter times among the top four in the Northeast-10 Conference on Saturday to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University men's track and field team at the Dartmouth Classic at Leverone Field House.

Each member of the trio was making his first run in the 1,000 on Saturday. Minors, who finished second with a time of 2:29.61, led the way for the Ravens and his mark was the fastest run by a Northeast-10 student-athlete thus far in 2013-14. Gisore followed close behind with a 2:31.35 to finish third and also move into third place in the Conference. Rugabirwa posted a 2:33.10, which was good for sixth at Dartmouth and stands fourth in the Northeast-10.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Minors and Gisore joined sophomore Ryan Dionne (Amesbury, Mass.) and freshman Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet ran Franklin Pierce's best time of the year (3:28.11) to finish third. The time also currently ranks third in the Northeast-10.

Dionne was in action individually on the track as well. He ran a season-best 7.23 to finish sixth in the 60-meter dash.

Of note in field events for the Ravens, freshman Mark Choiniere (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) cleared a season-best height of 3.81 meters to tie for 10th in the pole vault. The height currently ranks fifth in the Northeast-10.

The Ravens return to the track on Friday, Feb. 7, for the first day of the Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track & Tennis Center in Boston.
