Howard Powell Named Asst. T&F/XC Coach through NCAA Diversity Grant

RINDGE, N.H. (July 29, 2013) – Franklin Pierce University head track & field/cross country coach Zach Emerson announced on Monday that Howard Powell has been added to the program’s coaching staff as an assistant coach. The hiring was made possible after the Department of Athletics had recently received a diversity grant from the NCAA, which promotes the hiring of minority candidates to help create more career opportunities in intercollegiate athletics. The funding for the grant is good for one year.

(July 25, 2013) -- Coming on the heels of a spectacular inaugural season in 2012-13, the Franklin Pierce University men’s cross country/track & field program and head coach Zach Emerson announced on Thursday the team’s incoming recruiting class for the 2013-14 campaign. The class features 65 new student-athletes who will look to continue aiding in the program’s rise to prominent status in the Northeast-10 Conference.

(June 19, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s track & field/cross country program will once again be on the national stage this week as two members of the program will take part in the 2013 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Vincent Biunno (Montgomery, N.Y.) and Colton Ham (Webster, N.H.), both rising sophomores for upcoming 2013-14 season, are the two Ravens competing in the event which will go from June 19-23 at Drake Stadium on the campus of Drake University.

EASTON, Mass. (May 11, 2013) – Freshman Mike Abrams (Newark, N.J.) ran a 22.06 in the 200-meter dash on Saturday afternoon to finish fourth and earn All-New England honors for the Franklin Pierce University men’s track and field team on the third and final day of the NEICAAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by Stonehill at W.B. Mason Stadium. Combined with four points from yesterday, Franklin Pierce finished the meet with nine points and tied for 23rd out of 37 teams to earn points at the New England Championship.

Mason Stadium. The meet is colloquially known as the New England Championship.

(May 4, 2013) – After winning three decathlon events on Friday, freshman Vincent Biunno (Montgomery, N.Y.) added two more triumphs on Saturday to finish off his Conference title in the decathlon on the second day of the Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by American International at John G. Hoyt Track and Field Complex. In total, Franklin Pierce picked up 58 points to finish fifth in the 11-team meet.

(May 3, 2013) – The 4x800-meter relay squad of the Franklin Pierce University men’s track and field team turned in a 7:45.51 to finish fourth on Friday on the first day of the Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by American International at John G. Hoyt Track and Field Complex. Meanwhile, halfway through the inaugural competition of the decathlon at the Northeast-10 level, freshman Vincent Biunno (Montgomery, N.Y.) leads the event after finishing first in three of Friday’s five disciplines. Through the first day, the Ravens have amassed seven points and sit eighth in the 11-team meet, which will conclude on Saturday.

The announced crowd in attendance on the penultimate day of the meet was 39,700.
