Men’s Tennis Dispatches Saint Anselm, 6-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 21, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team took care of business on the road on Sunday afternoon. The Ravens dealt host Saint Anselm a 6-1 defeat in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 3-1 (2-0 NE10), while Saint Anselm falls to 0-8 (0-4 NE10).

The Ravens opened play on Sunday by taking all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. The most-competitive of the three came at first doubles, where sophomores Roberto Chong (Puigpunyent, Spain) and Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago) held off Saint Anselm freshmen Michael Rosen and Ethan Hall, 6-4. At second doubles, it was a 6-3 win for freshman Preston Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) and junior Yuval Barak (Zicron Ya'akov, Israel) over senior Daniel Kmetz and freshman Richard Flandreau. At third doubles, seniors James Bisazza (West Barnstable, Mass.) and Andrew Schadt (Tolland, Conn.) swept away sophomore Sam Kluger and junior Jason Wood, 6-0.

The success continued in singles play for the Ravens, who won five of the six matches to create the 6-1 final. The tightest of the six singles contests was also Saint Anselm's only point of the afternoon. At first singles, Bisazza and Hall traded 6-4 wins in the first two sets. With the team match already decided, the two played a 10-point tiebreak instead of a third set, and Hall came away with the 6-4, 4-6, 10-3 victory.

Franklin Pierce took each of the remaining five singles matches in straight sets. Chong rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Rosen at second singles, while Gordon dispatched Kluger, 6-0, 6-3, at third singles. Patrick was tested early, but took care of Kmetz, 6-4, 6-0, at fourth singles.

Things were even more lopsided at the back end of the match. Barak swept away Flandreau at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-0, while Schadt breezed past Wood at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-1.

The Ravens do not currently have any further matches on their schedule this fall, but may still try to make up a thrice-postponed match against Eastern Nazarene.
