Men’s Tennis Blanks Emerson, 9-0

RINDGE, N.H. (October 14, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team closed out the fall portion of its schedule in style on Saturday afternoon, by posting a 9-0 win over Emerson at home in non-conference play.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 3-1, while Emerson falls to 1-3.

The Ravens did not drop a set on the day while dispatching Emerson. Franklin Pierce opened the day with wins in all three doubles matches to open up a 3-0 lead. At first doubles, juniors James Bisazza (West Barnstable, Mass.) and Andrew Schadt (Tolland, Conn.) cruised to an 8-1 win over Emerson junior Daniel Okin and senior Antonio Ramirez. It was an identical, 8-1 score at second doubles, where freshman Roberto Chong (Puigpunyent, Spain) and sophomore Yuval Barak (Zicron Ya'akov, Israel) blitzed sophomore Brock Higley and freshman Thomas McCorkie. Meanwhile, at third doubles, it was an 8-3 win for junior Marcus Lawrence (Acton, Mass.) and sophomore Matthew Toombs (Pleasanton, Calif.) over senior Aren Kabarajian and sophomore Bernando Garza.

It was more of the same in singles play, as Franklin Pierce was rarely challenged while rolling to six more victories to complete the 9-0 shutout. It was straight-set wins at first, second and fifth singles, for Bisazza, Chong and Lawrence, respectively. Bisazza downed Okin, 7-5, 6-1; Chong took care of Ramirez, 6-2, 6-2; and Lawrence breezed past Kabarajian, 6-0, 6-1.

The remaining three contests were conducted in the pro-set format. Barak swept away Higley, 8-0, at third singles; Schadt downed McCorkie, 8-2, at fourth singles; and Toombs defeated Garza, 8-3, at sixth singles.

The Ravens will return to the court in the spring.
