Men’s Tennis Falls at NYIT, 7-2

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (October 4, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team faced a stern test on Wednesday afternoon, as the Ravens traveled to Long Island to square off with NYIT, which is currently ranked second in the East Region. Franklin Pierce was able to pick up a pair of individual match wins on the day, but the Bears would pick up a 7-2 win in the non-conference contest.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-1, while NYIT opens its season at 1-0.

Franklin Pierce's two points on the day came at fifth and sixth singles. At fifth singles, junior Marcus Lawrence (Acton, Mass.) posted a straight-set, 6-3, 6-2 win over NYIT sophomore Jean Kehyayan. At sixth singles, sophomore Matthew Toombs (Pleasanton, Calif.) had a slim, 2-1 edge over junior Kevin Huynh, before the latter retired.

NYIT senior Matej Selecky, who won the ITA East Region singles title just over a week ago, led the way for the Bears. At first doubles, he teamed with senior Alexandre Martinez for an 8-5 win. Later, Selecky scored a 6-2, 6-4 win at first singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Thursday, Oct. 12, when they travel to Regis (Mass.) for a non-conference match at 4:30 p.m. in Weston, Mass.
