Men’s Tennis’ Bisazza, Chong Earn Season-End Regional Rankings from ITA

ITA East Region rankings

RINDGE, N.H. (June 14, 2018) – Junior James Bisazza (West Barnstable, Mass.) and freshman Roberto Chong (Puigpunyent, Spain) of the Franklin Pierce University men’s tennis team both finished the year among the top 20 singles players in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s East Region rankings, as announced earlier this spring by the ITA.

Bisazza, who was an All-Northeast-10 Conference Second Team selection, finished the campaign ranked 10th in the East Region. Playing primarily at second singles, Bisazza put together a 13-6 record across 19 singles contests in 2017-18. The record included a 2-2 mark at first singles and an 11-4 mark at second singles. Bisazza went 8-1 on the year in NE10 play. He was the second-highest ranked NE10 player in the regional rankings, trailing only Southern New Hampshire senior Tiago Fernandes, who was ranked third in the East Region.

Meanwhile, Chong finished the year ranked 19th in the East Region, after a season where he earned All-NE10 Third Team and NE10 All-Rookie Team honors. Chong played primarily at first singles for the Ravens and tallied a 12-8 mark across 20 singles matches, including 10-6 at first singles and 2-2 at second singles. He posted a 6-3 mark in NE10 play. Chong was the sixth-highest of the eight NE10 players to appear in the rankings.

The ITA ranked the top 20 singles players, the top 10 doubles pairings and the top 10 teams in the East Region. The singles rankings ultimately contained 21 players, due to a tie for the 20th position.

The Ravens (10-11) posted a 5-4 mark in NE10 play this year to finish fourth, and returned to the postseason for the first time since 2005.
