Chong Named Rookie of the Year, Highlights Pair of All-NE10 Selections for Men’s Tennis

RINDGE, N.H. (April 18, 2018) – Freshman Roberto Chong (Puigpunyent, Spain) of the Franklin Pierce University men’s tennis team has been named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year, as announced on Wednesday by the Conference office. Chong was also named to the All-NE10 Third Team and the league’s All-Rookie Team, while junior James Bisazza (West Barnstable, Mass.) landed on the All-NE10 Second Team.

Chong played the NE10 season exclusively at first singles, where he put together a 6-3 record on his way to Third-Team honors as a freshman. Overall, including non-conference results as well, Chong notched a 12-8 record in singles play in 2017-18, including 10-6 at first singles and 2-2 at second singles.

For his part, Bisazza participated at second singles in all nine of the team’s NE10 matches. He put together an 8-1 record to earn All-NE10 Second-Team accolades, with his only loss coming to Southern New Hampshire’s Ricardo Marreiros, who went a perfect 9-0 to take home First-Team honors. Factoring in non-conference results, Bisazza finished the campaign 13-6 in singles play, including 2-2 at first singles and 11-4 at second singles.

The Ravens (10-11) posted a 5-4 mark in NE10 play this year to finish fourth, and returned to the postseason for the first time since 2005.
