Men’s Tennis Takes Care of Daemen, 6-1

RINDGE, N.H. (March 30, 2018) – In action for a pair of non-conference matches this weekend, the Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team opened up the weekend with a 6-1 win over visiting Daemen on Friday evening.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 7-7, while Daemen falls to 5-13.

Franklin Pierce opened play with wins in two of the three doubles matches. At second doubles, it was an 8-4 win for sophomore Yuval Barak (Zicron Ya'akov, Israel) and junior Marcus Lawrence (Acton, Mass.) over Daemen juniors David Gonzalez Villegas and Ricardo Ruiz Martinez. Meanwhile, at third doubles, junior James Bisazza (West Barnstable, Mass.) and sophomore Matthew Toombs (Pleasanton, Calif.) chalked up an 8-5 victory over freshman Pablo Martinez Hernandez and senior Mark Veitengruber.

The Ravens then followed up with wins in each of the four singles matches which were finished, to pull away for the 6-1 victory in the team match. Each of the four singles matches was decided in straight sets. At first singles, freshman Roberto Chong (Puigpunyent, Spain) dispatched Villegas, 6-3, 6-2. At second singles, it was a 6-0, 7-5 decision in favor of Bisazza over Martinez. At third singles, Barak breezed past freshman Tim Georg, 6-1, 6-2. Lastly, at fourth singles, it was a 6-2, 7-5 win for junior Andrew Schadt (Tolland, Conn.) over sophomore Fabian Wilde.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, March 31, when they remain home to host Roberts Wesleyan in a non-conference match beginning at 10 a.m.
