Men’s Tennis Notches 7-2 Win at Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 4, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team picked up a win on Tuesday afternoon, 7-2, on the road in Northeast-10 Conference play at Saint Anselm.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 2-10 (1-3 NE10), while Saint Anselm falls to 4-12 (1-6 NE10).

Franklin Pierce opened the day with wins in two of the day's three singles matches. At first doubles, sophomores James Bisazza (West Barnstable, Mass.) and Andrew Schadt (Tolland, Conn.) scratched out an 8-6 win over junior Adam Weinstein and sophomore Daniel Dmetz. Meanwhile, at second doubles, it was an 8-5 victory for freshman Yuval Barak (Zicron Ya'akov, Israel) and sophomore Marcus Lawrence (Acton, Mass.) over juniors Eric Howes and Kyle Harris.

Holding a 2-1 lead, the Ravens then rolled through singles play, taking five of the six matches to come up with the 7-2 win. Franklin Pierce took straight-set wins in each of the top four singles matches. At first singles, Bisazza took care of Howes, 6-2, 6-4. At second singles, Barak rolled over Weinstein, 6-3, 6-2. At third singles, Schadt dispatched Kmetz, 6-0, 6-2. At fourth singles, it was a 7-6 (3), 6-1 win for Lawrence over junior Brian Kavanagh.

Sixth singles was played in the pro set format, with the team match already decided. Freshman Matthew Toombs (Pleasanton, Calif.) picked up one final point for the Ravens, with an 8-4 win over junior Benji Page.

The Ravens return to the court on Thursday, April 6, when they travel to Stonehill for an NE10 match at 3:30 p.m. in Easton, Mass.
