Men’s Tennis Downed at Warner, 8-1

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 14, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team opened a three-match Florida swing on Tuesday afternoon with an 8-1 loss in a non-conference match at Warner, at the Winter Haven Tennis Complex.

With the loss, the Ravens fall to 1-5, while Warner improves to 6-3.

Franklin Pierce's lone point of the day on Tuesday came at first doubles. Sophomore James Bisazza (West Barnstable, Mass.) and freshman Yuval Barak (Zicron Ya'akov, Israel) combined to take an 8-6 decision from Warner sophomore Martyna Lukosiunas and senior Francisco Perafan.

The Ravens were competitive throughout doubles play, as they pushed Warner in both remaining doubles contests as well. At second doubles, sophomores Andrew Schadt (Tolland, Conn.) and Marcus Lawrence (Acton, Mass.) suffered an 8-4 defeat against senior Rafael Coutinho and freshman Julian Cuartas. Third doubles went even deeper, with junior Olivier Viel (Quebec City, Quebec) and freshman Matthew Toombs (Pleasanton, Calif.) being edged by junior Renan Gambim and freshman Carlos Pinel.

Singles play was more lopsided in favor of Warner, as the Royals took all six singles points. Still, the Ravens were highly competitive at both second and third singles. At second singles, Barak dropped two extremely tight sets to Coutinho, who pulled out a 7-5, 7-6 (3) victory. Meanwhile, at third singles, Schadt took Lukosiunas to a tiebreaker third set, before the latter collected a 7-5, 4-6, 11-9 win.

The Ravens return to the court on Wednesday, March 15, when they travel to Eckerd for a non-conference match at 3 p.m. in St. Petersburg, Fla.
