Ravens travel to ITA Regional play next Saturday

RINDGE, N.H. (September 12, 2015) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated on Saturday afternoon, 9-0, by Roberts Wesleyan in non-conference play at Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce opens its season at 0-1 (0-0 Northeast-10), while Roberts Wesleyan improves to 2-0 (0-0 East Coast).

Freshman Marcus Lawrence (Acton, Mass.) put up the strongest fight for Franklin Pierce on Saturday, as he took on Roberts Wesleyan senior Charles Farres at first singles. Lawrence picked off a few games along the way, but ultimately dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision.

For Roberts Wesleyan, each of its six players came away with wins in both singles and doubles play on Saturday. Farres arguably led the way for the Redhawks, as he won at both first singles and second doubles. Prior to the win over Lawrence at first singles, Farres teamed with senior Rene Torti to sweep to an 8-0 win at first doubles over sophomore Olivier Viel (Quebec City, Quebec) and freshman Joshua Singer (Toms River, N.J.).

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they travel to the first day of ITA Regional play in Philadelphia.
