Men’s Tennis Doubles Up Saint Anselm, 6-3

RINDGE, N.H. (April 18, 2016) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was victorious, 6-3, on Monday afternoon over Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 5-14 (2-6 Northeast-10), while Saint Anselm falls to 3-10 (2-6 Northeast-10).

Franklin Pierce opened the day by taking two of the three doubles matches to build a 2-1 lead. At first doubles, freshmen Marcus Lawrence (Acton, Mass.) and Andrew Schadt (Tolland, Conn.) picked up an 8-5 win over Saint Anselm sophomores Eric Howes and Kyle Harris. At second doubles, freshman James Bisazza (West Barnstable, Mass.) and sophomore Olivier Viel (Quebec City, Quebec) gutted out a 9-7 win over freshman Daniel Kmetz and sophomore Adam Weinstein. Saint Anselm got on the board at third doubles, as sophomores Brian Kavanagh and Alex Pearson squeaked out a 9-7 victory over senior Drew Bennett (Rindge, N.H.) and freshman Dan Longtin (Eliot, Maine).

The Ravens then needed just three singles wins to take the match and did one better, garnering victories in four of the six. Franklin Pierce took each of the top three singles match-ups to secure the win. At first singles, Bisazza handily dispatched Howes, 6-0, 6-2. At second singles, Lawrence took care of Weinstein, 6-3, 6-1. At third singles, Schadt downed Kmetz, 6-3, 6-4.

With the match already decided, Viel notched an 8-3, pro-set victory over Harris at fifth singles to round out the Ravens scoring on the day.

The Ravens return to the court on Tuesday, April 19, when they travel to Merrimack for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 3 p.m. in North Andover, Mass.
