RINDGE, N.H. (September 12, 2014) – Junior Drew Bennett (Rindge, N.H.) picked up a win at third singles, while senior Chris Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) and freshman Olivier Viel (Quebec City, Quebec) tallied a win at first doubles on Friday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to Regis (Mass.) in non-conference play at Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce opens its 2014-15 season at 0-1 (0-0 Northeast-10), while Regis improves to 2-0 (0-0 New England Collegiate).

The Ravens picked up one point each in doubles and singles play on Friday. Brewer and Viel found themselves locked in a tight match to open the season against Regis senior Michael Beluch and freshman Matt Quattrociocchi at first doubles. The match required extra time before Brewer and Viel pulled out a 9-8 victory.

Later, at third singles, Bennett breezed through a straight-set victory over sophomore Jeremy Morgenbesser at third singles, 6-1, 6-3. At second singles, senior Mark Petrie (Pembroke, Mass.) took the first set from freshman Chris Harrow, 6-4. Harrow swept through the second set, 6-0, and then took the third-set tiebreak, 10-2, to pull out the comeback victory.

Harrow was the only Regis player to come away a winner in both singles and doubles play on Friday afternoon. Before his win over Petrie at second singles, he teamed with Morgenbesser for an 8-5 win at second doubles over Petrie and Bennett.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 13, when they host Adelphi in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 10 a.m.
