Men’s Tennis Dropped by Merrimack, 9-0

Ravens visit Saint Michael's Friday

Brewer RINDGE, N.H. (April 1, 2015) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated on Wednesday afternoon, 9-0, by Merrimack in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-7 (0-5 Northeast-10), while Merrimack improves to 4-5 (3-0 Northeast-10). The match was the spring opener for Franklin Pierce.

Senior Christopher Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) put up the strongest fight for the Ravens in singles play on Wednesday. He took the first set from Merrimack sophomore Steven Francis at first singles, but was ultimately defeated, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Elsewhere, junior Drew Bennett (Rindge, N.H.) took six games at fourth singles from senior Vince Bellino, who notched a 6-4, 6-2 win.

In all, each of Merrimack's six players were victorious in both singles and doubles play on Wednesday afternoon. Francis was a winner in the top match of each, as he also teamed with freshman Mikhail Belov for an 8-3 win at first doubles.

The Ravens return to the court on Friday, April 3, when they travel to Saint Michael's for a Northeast-10 Conference match at noon in Colchester, Vt.
