MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 10, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated, 8-1, at Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference play on Thursday afternoon. Sophomore Drew Bennett (Rindge, N.H.) picked up the lone point for Franklin Pierce with a win at fifth singles.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-3 (1-3 Northeast-10), while Southern New Hampshire improves to 5-0 (4-0 Northeast-10).

The team match was already decided by the time Bennett's match with SNHU junior Evan Eaton rolled around on Thursday afternoon, so the two played in the pro-set format. It proved to be one of the more competitive matches of the day, with Bennett prevailing, 8-6. It was Bennett's second straight win in singles play.

Earlier in the day, sophomore Jared Taylor (Pelham, N.H.) put up a fight at third singles. After falling quickly in the first set against junior Mike Wallace, 6-1, Taylor bounced back and nearly forced a tiebreaker third set, but was ultimately finished off in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5.

Outside of Eaton, all five remaining SNHU players posted wins in doubles and singles play on Thursday, as the Penmen swept through the three doubles matches and the first four singles matches to quickly decide the match. Senior Mitch Dobek came away a winner at both first doubles, where he teamed with Wallace for an 8-0 shutout, and at first singles, where he cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win.

The match wrapped up the fall season for the Ravens, who will return to the court in the spring.
