Men’s Tennis Blanked by Merrimack, 9-0

Ravens visit Nichols on Tuesday

Franklin Pierce Tennis Gilhuly, Brewer and the Ravens are back in action on Tuesday at Nichols.

RINDGE, N.H (March 8, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, at home against Merrimack in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-5 (1-5 Northeast-10), while Merrimack improves to 6-3 (5-0 Northeast-10).

Sophomore Drew Bennett (Rindge, N.H.) had one of the stronger fights of the day for the Ravens, as he was able to hang close to Merrimack freshman Nick Majewski in the first set, before dropping a 6-4, 6-0 decision at fifth singles. Bennett was also competitive at second doubles, where he teamed with fellow sophomore Jared Taylor (Pelham, N.H.), though the duo ultimately fell, 8-4, to sophomore Miguel Belfort and junior Vince Bellino.

In all, five different Merrimack players picked up wins in both singles and doubles play on Saturday, led by sophomore Matt Pronesti, who won in the top flights of each. At first doubles, he teamed with senior Chris Barnhart for an 8-1 win, before rolling to a 6-2, 6-0 win at first singles.

The Ravens are scheduled to return to the court on Tuesday, March 11, when they travel to Nichols for a non-conference match at 3 p.m. in Dudley, Mass.
